Boston Day Eight
boston public library, isabella stewert gardener museum & view boston
Our first stop was to the Boston Public Library, a beautiful building filled with reading rooms, cafés, and a stunning courtyard. We spent a good hour traipsing from room to room, checking out tapestries and paintings and daydreaming about working in the main hall.
Continuing on the book theme, we walked to Trident Books for lunch and more books. A lovely two story building filled with books, gifts, and great food, this was a highlight of the day. Also, every breakfast should come with a chocolate chip pancake. If i’m ever queen of the universe I will implement this rule.
Then it was a walk past the university and through the park to the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. Originally Isabella's home, she filled it with art and treasures from her travels. But the real wonder is the stunning courtyard in the centre of the building that all four floors look out over.
The museum was also the site of a heist. In 1990 two men dressed as police officers gained entry and stole 13 works of art totalling $500 million. The art has never been found, and the empty frames still hang in the Dutch room.
Our final stop of the day was to View Boston. This viewing platform looks out over the city, and I make a point to visit a tall building everywhere I go. The views were incredible, and being able to point out the places that we had visited on our trip was a fun challenge.
A fantastic way to finish off our last full day in Boston!
