Hello 2025!
It’s the 2nd of January, but the 1st still feels like part of the holidays rather than a day to get started on the new year. It’s a day for steak pie and finishing off the leftover Christmas chocolates and bemoaning going back to work the next day.
The 2nd is when the new year actually starts so I’m writing this from my desk on my lunch break, struggling with the fact that I have to wear jeans and not just shapeless comfy clothes that let me blend into the sofa.
I’m going to whisper this next part because I’m pretty sure that I’ve said this every year since 2018, but I feel like 2025 is going to be a good year.
I won’t linger on that statement just in case I jinx it, I’ll just move on...
I usually make lofty new year’s resolutions that end up being abandoned by the 9th, so this year I’m narrowing my goals into a few manageable areas.
Get healthier. My physical and mental health can be the first things to slip when I’m not feeling my best, but that just turns the whole situation into a self-fulfilling downward spiral. No strict goals here, just to take a bit better care of myself and make ‘feeling good’ more of a priority.
Learn computer coding. Instead of hopping from hobby to hobby, I’m just picking the one main area to focus on and this year that is computer coding! I already know what HTML stands for so I think I’m off to a flying start
Make some career moves. This one’s a bit vague, but that’s because my plan is a bit vague. I have managed to split it into two sections though, one for my 9-5 marketing career and one for my dream career (writer). For the first few months of 2025 my plan is to look for a new job in marketing, and also to make a habit of writing and creating writing adjacent content.
Whittle down my TBR pile. I don’t even know how many books I have that I need to read... It’s over 100 at least. I don’t expect to get through it in one year but after buying myself a kindle and making more of an effort to read, I should be able to at least get down to under 100?
I know a lot of people don’t really like January, but for me it feels like a fresh start full of possibilities. Like the biggest Monday of the year. I’ll get back to you in February/March time, which actually are the worst months of the year...
