Pancake Quest - Nowhere Man, Brighton

One woman’s quest to find the best pancakes in the UK and beyond!

After hearing interesting things from Nowhere Man for a few years, a chance marketing conference took me to Brighton to the weekend and I couldn’t pass up on the opportunity to finally try them.

On an unassuming residential street there’s a bright yellow shop front (next to an odd vintage store with a shopfront full of… interesting taxidermy). They don’t take bookings so I was there at 9am with my face pressed against the window, and I wasn’t the only one! By 9.30 most tables were full and by the time I left at about 10.30 there was a queue out the door.

Next, the menu and the most difficult decision… sweet or savoury? They do also have other offerings, but I was there for pancakes and pancakes only.

A final decision was made and soon I had a huge plate of pancakes, bacon, scrambled eggs, and maple butter in front of me, all dusted with a generous serving of icing sugar.

They are some of the best pancakes I’ve ever had… Honestly, I’ve been thinking about them every day since I left Brighton. I’m going to have to unfollow them on Instagram because I’m so heartbroken that I can’t go back :(

Fluffy and not too sweet, these were amazing. The bacon and eggs would have been delicious on their own, whereas sometimes pancake toppings can be a bit of an afterthought. The maple butter was a bit much on its own, but when it was poured over it melted into the pancakes in the most amazing sweet and savoury combination.

I promise that the next time I’m in Brighton this will be my first stop!

Final pancake rating - 9/10

(I’m still hunting the illusive 10/10 pancake)
